Biosafety and Biocontainment Training for BSL-3 Laboratory Workers

The National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program and Kansas State University are offering a 4.5 day series of courses in Biosafety and Biocontainment for BSL-3 Laboratory Workers. These courses are designed for biosafety professionals, researchers and laboratorians to enhance individual knowledge and meet the scientific, regulatory, biocontainment, biosafety, and engineering challenges associated with the working in a biocontainment facility. Daily topics will include:

  • Introduction to microbiology and biosafety
  • Principles of biosafety and biocontainment
  • The biological risk assessment process
  • Laboratory sterilization and disinfection
  • Emergency planning and response
  • Laboratory regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Large animal facility design and operations
  • Hands on sessions using laboratory equipment

A detailed schedule will be available at www.nbbtp.org. NBBTP is authorized by IACET to offer 3.6 CEUs. Participants will be required to score a minimum of 70% on each post-course knowledge assessment in order to receive CEUs.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Please note that government-issued photo identification (driver’s license or passport) is required for admission to the facility. Non-US citizens must have a valid passport. Registration forms from Non-US citizens will not be accepted after February 8, 2009.  We request registration from US citizens by February 15, 2009 after which they will be admitted if space is available.   Courses require a minimum of 10 participants.   • Course Tuition: Participants may register at $300 per course, $500 per day or at a discounted tuition of $2300* for the full 4.5 day series until February 5th. Group discounts are available for multiple registrations. Contact info@frontlinefoundation.org for more information.  *After February 5th tuition is $2500.00 for the full 4.5 day course.
  • Course Schedule:  Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. – noon

Lodging:  A block of rooms is being held at the Holiday Inn at the Campus, 1641 Anderson Ave., Manhattan, Ks  66502,  785-539-7531, at a rate of $99.95.  Participants must call to reserve their own room and provide payment information.   

  • Lunch as well as morning and afternoon coffee breaks are provided on-site.
  • Transportation, lodging, other meals and incidental expenses are the responsibility of individual participants. Registrants will receive a confirmation including directions and information on transportation.
